   The beauty of Tokyo in April 1998, with its colorful cherry blossoms and azaleas, will greet international experts as they attend Underwater Technology '98. One of the most pleasant months in Japan will host this new symposium, which is organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), its Tokyo Chapter, and the University of Tokyo's Institute of Industrial Science , along with host participating organizations from several countries as indicated herein. A primary goal of IEEE OES is to take its symposiums around the world, where emerging technology and applications can be synthesized into solutions for the future. "Key Issues for the Global Underwater Environment" will Provide a thematic umbrella under which attendees will discuss the problems and potential long term solutions which concern not only the Pacific Rim countries, but the world in general.

   The symposium venue will be the New Sanno Hotel in Tokyo. Attendees will also have an opportunity to visit area attractions including the Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (JAMSTEC) on April 14th and other historical and cultural attractions around the Tokyo area.
